OPERATION: 911

OPERATION: 911

Verse:

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
Psalm 91:1

Introduction:

911 is a phone number we hope we never have to dial, but it is there to provide protection and help in the event of an emergency.  The Bible is the same type of tool.  You can find help for anything within it’s pages.  In Psalm 91 David writes of the safety he has in abiding in the Lord.  The whole chapter is such an awesome reflection of what God has in store for us and how he watches and protects us daily.  In this operation we are going to learn about the emergencies that we may encounter and how we can get help using 911.  We will also learn how the bible can help us in times of need or crisis.

Instructions:

  • Teach your children about the 911 service the police and fire departments have to offer.
  • Teach them what 911 is used for, when to call, and what questions they may ask.
  • Demonstrate how to call 911 from the phone that you use at home.  Take out the battery and see if they can repeat the action.  Show them how on a cell phone.
  • Have your children press the smoke alarms and change the batteries if needed.
  • Do you have a family escape plan and meeting location?
  • Have you taught your kids to “stop, drop, and roll”?  What about “get low and go”? Or “duck, cover, and hold”?

Observations:

Are you and your kids as prepared for emergencies as you thought they were?
Where do you turn in times of need?  Do you count on your own strength or do you give it to God who can handle all things?
